What you'll learn

English Typing is a baseline requirement for nearly every corporate and government sector role in India. While Hindi typing varies by font, English typing is universal and follows the QWERTY keyboard layout.

Whether you are preparing for a government exam (like SSC or Railways) or a corporate job, here is a complete description of the standards.

Hindi Typing is a vital skill for anyone targeting government jobs (SSC, State PSCs, Banks) or content creation in India. To master it, you need to understand that "Hindi Typing" is not just one thing—it depends on the font and layout required for your specific goal.

Technical Standards for 2026

In professional and competitive environments, typing is measured in two ways:

  • WPM (Words Per Minute): The standard unit. A "word" is officially defined as 5 keystrokes (including spaces and punctuation).
  • KDPH (Key Depressions Per Hour): Used primarily in Data Entry (DEO) exams.
  • Standard: 8,000 KDPH is roughly 27 WPM.
  • Advanced: 15,000 KDPH (for CAG roles) is roughly 50 WPM.

Speed & Accuracy Requirements

For competitive exams (like SSC CHSL), the standards are generally:

  • Hindi Typing Speed: 30 WPM (Words Per Minute).
  • Key Depressions: Roughly 9,000 KDPH (Key Depressions Per Hour).
  • Accuracy: Most exams require 93%–95% accuracy.
  • The "Mock Trial": Most 2026 exam centers offer a 2-3 minute warm-up period. Use this to check if keys like Shift and Space are sticky.
